How to export your Starling Business statement to CSV

By The Income Tracker ยท Updated 16 September 2026

In short

Log in to the Starling app or Starling Online Banking in a browser, open the account, pick a date range and export as CSV. Then import that file into The Income Tracker and track your money for free, with no bank login.

Export Starling Business transactions as CSV

  1. Open the Starling app and switch to the business account.
  2. Tap the account icon at the top right, then Statements.
  3. Choose Statement history for a month, or set a custom date range.
  4. Select CSV as the format and download or share the file.
  5. Prefer a bigger screen? Log in to Starling Online Banking, open the business account, go to Statements and download the CSV for the period you want.
  6. Import the file into The Income Tracker.

Starling's CSV is one of the cleanest around: date, counterparty, reference, type, amount, balance and Starling's own category. Bookkeeping integrations with Xero, FreeAgent or QuickBooks are separate and not needed for this.

Formats Starling Business offers: CSV and PDF, including certified PDF statements for proof of income. CSV is the cleanest import. OFX and QIF also import directly.

What happens after you import

Drop the file in and every transaction lands in a month-by-month ledger. Drag items into categories, flag the recurring ones, and watch your surplus update as you go. Money moved between your own accounts gets auto-skipped, so transfers never double-count. Duplicates are caught too, so importing overlapping date ranges is safe.

Only got a PDF? You can still import it. See how to import a PDF bank statement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export Starling Business transactions to CSV for free?
Yes. Starling Business lets you download your own transactions as a file at no cost from the Starling app or Starling Online Banking in a browser. You then import that file into a budgeting tool such as The Income Tracker.
Do I need to connect or log in to my bank to use The Income Tracker?
No. There is no open-banking connection and you never enter bank credentials into The Income Tracker. You download the file from Starling Business yourself and drop it into the app, which runs entirely in your browser.
Is my Starling Business data kept private?
Yes. The Income Tracker is local-first. Your imported transactions stay in your own browser and are never uploaded to a server, unless you choose to sign in to sync across devices.
Can I export more than a year of Starling Business transactions?
Yes. Set a custom date range in Statements and export the period you need. For very long ranges, export a year at a time so each file stays easy to check.
Will Starling's categories carry over?
The Starling category column is imported as a hint. Your own rules in The Income Tracker take precedence once you have categorised a merchant.
